What Is Sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive vein treatment that uses a specialized solution injected into targeted veins to help them close. Over time, the treated veins fade as your body naturally reroutes blood flow through healthier vessels. Treatment planning is individualized because spider veins and varicose veins do not always respond the same way.

Spider Veins

Spider veins are small, web-like surface veins that often appear on the legs. Sclerotherapy can help reduce their appearance when the veins are a good fit.

Vericose Veins

Varicose veins are larger, raised veins that may come with heaviness or aching. Some cases need additional evaluation and may be better suited for other options.

Sclerotherapy FAQs

What does sclerotherapy treat?

Sclerotherapy is commonly used for spider veins and certain vein patterns on the legs. During your consultation, we will confirm whether your veins are a fit and whether varicose veins require a different approach.

It depends on how many veins you want to address and how your body responds. Many patients plan for a series, and we will recommend a schedule based on your assessment.

Most patients describe mild pinches from the tiny needle and brief stinging as the solution is placed. We keep the process calm and step-by-step.

Visible improvement is usually gradual. Some veins fade over several weeks, and others may take longer depending on size and location.

Some patients are advised to wear compression for a period of time to support the result and comfort. Your provider will give clear, personalized guidance.

Sclerotherapy is often preferred for many leg spider veins, while IPL can be helpful for select superficial veins.
